Sioux Manufacturing Corporation (SMC) manufactures ablative tile components for the United States Navy to use on multi-celled launcher modules stowed in a protected, below deck location on the U.S. Navy's Cruisers and Destroyers.

The ablative tile panel is comprised of a fiberglass mat that is impregnated with phenolic resin and silica powder (MXB350 & MXB360). This raw material is supplied to SMC in sheet form, which is stacked together and molded under heat and pressure. The ablative panels are then sandblasted to promote a bondable surface and cut to a final configuration using either a high-pressure water jet or a large industrial saw, depending on the part profile. The parts are then marked, inspected, and packed for shipment.
